Invisalign® vs. Braces: Find the Best Option for Your Smile!

Can Invisalign® Work as Well as Braces?

How Does Invisalign® Treat an Underbite or an Overbite?

When straightening teeth, we focus not only on positioning the teeth but also on aligning the bite to prevent future discomfort and issues. With traditional braces, the bite is often adjusted using rubber bands that apply pressure between the top and bottom brackets, holding the jaw in a specific position. Invisalign® works differently by applying targeted pressure to move teeth into proper alignment. If your bite issue, such as an underbite or overbite, is caused by the teeth, it can typically be addressed with Invisalign®. However, if the misalignment is due to a jaw issue, jaw surgery may be needed in addition to aligners. In some cases, traditional braces may be the best option for jaw-related bite problems. During your consultation, we’ll assess your unique situation and let you know whether Invisalign® can correct your bite.

How Does Invisalign® Treat Crowded Teeth?

At Four Zero Five Dental Aesthetics, we offer several solutions for addressing overcrowding, depending on your unique needs. One of the most common methods is using an expander, which can be used in combination with braces or Invisalign®. An expander gently pushes the dental arch outward, creating more space for your teeth. This is a minimally invasive option that many of our patients prefer. Alternatively, we may recommend removing one or more teeth or slightly shaving enamel to create additional space before beginning treatment. During your visit, we’ll discuss all available options in detail, helping you make an informed decision on the best approach to achieve a beautifully aligned smile.

What Are Attachments and How Are They Used?

Attachments are small, tooth-colored bumps placed on your teeth during Invisalign® treatment. They are designed to be discreet and are typically only noticeable up close. Not all patients require attachments, but if we recommend them, it’s for a good reason: they help improve the effectiveness of your treatment. Attachments provide better grip for the aligners, allowing them to apply more pressure, which helps move your teeth more efficiently. Once your treatment is complete, the attachments will be removed. Additionally, we may use buttons in some cases, either alongside or instead of attachments. These are bonded to your teeth and often used with elastics to help achieve the desired tooth movement.

Which is Better for Me, Invisalign® or Braces?

Choosing between Invisalign® and braces ultimately depends on your individual needs and lifestyle. Orthodontic treatment, whether with Invisalign® or traditional braces, typically takes anywhere from one to two years. Even mild cases usually require at least a year of treatment, with eighteen months being the average. Therefore, it’s essential to ensure that you’re comfortable with the treatment process and committed to seeing it through to the end.

Fortunately, you have options. By asking the right questions and consulting with us at Four Zero Five Dental Aesthetics, you can make an informed decision about which treatment option suits you best. Invisalign® is an excellent choice for many because it offers flexibility: you can remove the aligners to eat whatever you like and maintain your usual oral hygiene routine without the need for special tools as with braces. Additionally, Invisalign® aligners are virtually invisible, so you can enjoy the benefit of seeing your smile improve gradually throughout treatment, not just at the end like with traditional braces.

We are confident in our ability to transform your smile with Invisalign® and can even provide a projected rendering of your final results so you can see the potential impact of treatment. During your consultation, we will discuss the physical changes that will take place with your teeth and bite, and you will share your lifestyle preferences and goals. Together, we’ll create a treatment plan that fits your needs now and in the future.
